Fun Fact: Scows were very helpful and lots of people used them on the Great Lakes. There was an old saying that “if you can build a barn, you can build a scow.” This meant that you didn’t need special skills to build a scow because they were a rectangular shape, like a barn or a house, instead of a curved shape like other wooden ships.
